“The Impact of Auditors' Incentives on Audit Quality and Its Reflection on Firm Value & Credit Rating - An Empirical Study”
Master Abstract
This study aims to analyze and test the impact of auditors' incentives on the audit quality and its reflection on the firm value and credit rating. To achieve the purpose of the study, the study sample consisted of 80 non-financial companies listed on the Egyptian Stock Exchange for a period of five years (during the period from 2015 to 2019), with 390 observations. To collect the data of the study sample, the researcher used the specialized websites to obtain the annual Financial Statements and reports and the complementary clarifications thereof, in addition to the minutes of the ordinary general assembly, the annual reports of the board of directors, the report of the auditor, and the data was analyzed using several appropriate statistical methods such as: correlation analysis Regression analysis, path analysis.
Through the primary analysis to test the study's hypotheses, and the sensitivity analysis, the results of the statistical analysis showed that there is a significant effect of the abnormal audit fees on the quality of the performance of the audit process (measured by the size of the audit firm). In addition, there is a significant effect of Auditor Retention on the audit quality.
There is also a significant effect of the audit quality on the firm value (measured by Tobin's Q), The results of the sensitivity analysis confirmed the validity and robustness of this result using an alternative measure of the firm value (a measure of the rate of return on assets (ROA), There is also a significant effect of the quality of the audit quality on the credit rating of companies. There is a significant effect of auditors' incentives (abnormal audit fees and Auditor Retention) on the firm value.
In addition, there is a significant effect of auditors' incentives (abnormal audit fees and Auditor Retention) on the credit rating of companies. There is also a significant effect of the audit quality as a mediating variable in the relationship between the auditors' incentives (abnormal audit fees and Auditor Retention) and the firm value. The results also indicated that there is a significant effect of the quality of the performance of the audit process as a mediating variable in the relationship between the incentives of auditors (abnormal audit fees and Auditor Retention) and the credit rating of companies.
